Essential acrylic painting supplies

  • acrylic paints – a simple 12-colour pack is good enough to start
  • pencil/charcoal – 2B pencil or willow stick charcoal for drafting
  • paintbrushes – You may start with flat and round brushes in L,M and S sizes. Some stores may have a set of brushes with various types of these in the picture below. It is also a good start pack. After a few weeks practice, you may know which types of extra brushes you can get for further development in your future projects.
  • painting surface – canvas, wood or paper. There are a number of choices available for acrylic painting in stores. You may choose the right one depending on what kind of practice you will apply on.
  • artist palette – Plastic, wooden, paper, glass based trays or sheets. Acrylic paint dries out very fast, so you need to make sure they don’t dry out during practice.
  • Palette Knives
  • rag/paper towels
  • cup or jar of water
  • soap for clean-up
  • varnish – provide a protective coating for painting surface.
